Bill would make false-alarm emergency calls carry hefty fine

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved a bill that would make false-alarm calls to police, firefighting and MDA hotlines carry a NIS 14,400 fine. If the call was made intentionally to disrupt emergency services’ activities, it will carry a NIS 75,300 fine.
The bill by MK Nissan Slomiansky (Bayit Yehudi) proposed the bill after three teens were kidnapped in Gush Etzion last summer and the call one of them, Gilad Shaer, made to the police was not immediately taken seriously. A police official told Slomiansky that 42 percent of calls made are false alarms.
