Blackout hits Venezuelan oil states, Caracas

CARACAS - Power cuts hit several Venezuelan regions including oil states and the capital Caracas on Thursday, but refineries were not affected by the latest major blackout to hit the OPEC member.
State television said electricity was out in at least six states, with no power supplied to the Caracas metro at the start of the evening rush hour.
The country's main refineries were operating normally, however, state oil company PDVSA and a union said.
Electricity Minister Ali Rodriguez said the outages were cause by the failure of an 800 KW cable, affecting 6,000 MW of capacity.
