Border Patrol finds runaway Palestinian detainee in Hebron

Three days after he slipped away from Border Police officers outside Ofer Prison, a Palestinian man was arrested by undercover police officers hiding out in a house in Hebron.
On Sunday the man was being taken in a Border Police vehicle to Ofer Prison, where he was to be detained on a charge of illegally entering Israel from the West Bank. The man, who was not handcuffed at the time, managed to flee from the vehicle and get away from the officers. He then was able to evade the efforts of Border Patrol and Jerusalem Police who gave chase, only being caught three days later, despite the fact that police knew his name and where his family lived.
Shortly after the man escaped, Border Police head Asst.-Ch. Amos Yaakov opened an investigation into the circumstances behind the escape.
