Labor MK Eitan Cabel announced on Wednesday that he intends to challenge Histadrut Labor Federation chief Ofer Eini in an election that will be held in May.
Cabel said he intends to lead an independent list of candidates that will include young activists from the summer's socioeconomic protests. He said that if elected he will use the Histadrut to ensure that the demands of the protesters are answered. Former Histarut chief and current MK Amir Peretz mulled running for his former post but decided against it. He will support Cabel against Eini, who is his political nemesis.
