Cabinet approves Eisenkot as next IDF chief of staff

The cabinet on Sunday approved the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, as the 21st IDF chief of staff.
Eisenkot, 54, is currently the deputy chief of staff, and will replace outgoing chief Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz when his four year term comes to an end in February.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon reached an agreement in late November that Eisenkot was the best candidate to replace Gantz.
Economy Minister Naftali Bennett announced on his Facebook page Sunday morning that the cabinet had approved the appointment.
"We have just approved the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot as the next IDF cheif of staff. Gadi is a principled, modest, creative and decisive commander, he said.
