Cabinet approves Alsheich as new police chief

The cabinet unanimously confirmed the appointment of Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) deputy head Roni Alsheich as the Israel Police inspector-general on Sunday.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud), who recommended Alsheich's appointment, said following the announcement that "Roni is a senior officer who has a lot of experience fighting terrorism and is familiar with the activities of the police."
Alsheich, 52, has previously served as the acting Shin Bet chief, and prior to that in the IDF's Paratroop Brigade.
