Cameron says UK going ahead with nuclear sub work

LONDON - Britain will announce on Wednesday it is going ahead with design work on a new generation of nuclear-armed submarines, Prime Minister David Cameron said.
"We are committed to retaining an independent nuclear deterrent based on Trident," Cameron said, referring to Britain's existing nuclear-armed submarines.
"The defense secretary (Liam Fox) will make a statement to parliament today announcing our decision to proceed with initial gate," he said.
"Initial gate" means placing an initial design contract for a new class of submarine.
