Canada appoints Vivian Bercovici as new ambassador to Israel

Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird announced Wednesday the appointment of Toronto lawyer Vivian Bercovici as Canada's new ambassador to Israel.
“Canada and Israel share a strong and multi-faceted relationship based on shared values, common interests and strong political, economic, cultural and social ties," Baird said in a statement.
“We also look forward to further deepening the bonds between Canada and Israel during Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s first official visit to the region later this month.”
Bercovici studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem for a year in the early 1980s and has penned a monthly column for The Toronto Star on Israel and the Middle East.
