Canada calls Gaza rocket attacks on Israel 'abhorrent'

Canada Thursday night issued a strong condemnation of the rocket and mortar fire that has rained down on southern Israel in recent days.
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon called the rocket attacks "abhorrent and criminal," while reaffirming his government's commitment to supporting Israel, The Montreal Gazette reported.
Cannon said that the Canadian government "vigorously condemns the rocket attacks on Israel launched from the Gaza Strip."
He added, "These terrorist attacks, which indiscriminately target civilian areas, are abhorrent and criminal." Israel, he said, "has a right to defend itself against such terrorist acts," according to the report.
The foreign affairs minister further called on "all parties in Gaza" to halt their attacks on Israel, the Gazette reported.
