Canadian foreign minister to quit, says CBC, amid talk of tension

OTTAWA - Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird is set to resign from the cabinet this week, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Monday, amid what sources said were tensions with the prime minister's office.
The public broadcaster, quoting unnamed sources, said Baird, 45, had informed his staff of the decision. He will not stand in an election due to be held in October.
Baird, known for a punishing travel schedule and strident support for Israel, had most recently been trying to secure the release of Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy in Egypt.
