Car bomb targets deputy council head in north, second bomb in less than 24 hours

An explosive device blew up late Friday night while it was stuck to a car belonging to the deputy head of the Peki’in local council while it was parked inside the northern Israel town.
No one was hurt in the blast, which is the latest in a series of threats and attempts on the life of Ahmad Ahmad recently.
Police said they have not yet made any arrests and are trying to determine if the blast was connected a personal attack directed at him or somehow linked to local council politics.
The blast was the second car bomb in Israel in less than 24 hours. On Friday morning, a bomb blew up while affixed to a vehicle in Petah Tikva, destroying the vehicle and leaving three other cars in flames.
The target of the blast was a local underworld figure well known to Central District police. Witnesses reported seeing the man flee from the car shortly before the blast, according to Israel media reports.
