The Justice Ministry announced on Monday the appointment of Uri Carmel as head of the Police Investigations Department. Carmel, 46, has served as deputy head of the department since 2009.Carmel, a graduate of Harvard and Hebrew Universities, specialized in criminal trials during his 13 years in the State Attorney's Office, first as a criminal prosecutor and then as head of criminal affairs.Recently, Carmel took a lead role in the investigation of police chief candidate Uri Bar Lev. Bar Lev was suspected of sexual offenses and suspended himself from the police.
