Channel 2: Local authorities across country plan strikes for next week
By JPOST.COM STAFF
Local authorities across the country will strike on Sunday and Monday next week, according to a Channel 2 report Thursday night. The strike will affect kindergartens and schools, excluding special education, as well as municipal services such as garbage collection.
The strikes planned to protest the government "stealing" of NIS three billion out of NIS seven billion allocated, authorities said.
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Netanya, Herzliya and Ra'anan municipal councils, however, announced that they would not be participating in the planned strike, and that services would not be disrupted.
As part of the action, hundreds of garbage trucks were planning a convoy to the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem. Large traffic jams were expected as a result, according to the report.
In response, Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar on Thursday night called on local authorities to refrain from causing disruption to school classes.
