Chemical leak leads to evacuation of residential Jerusalem building

A chemical leak in a Jerusalem residential building located in the southwest neighborhood of Givat Massuah resulted in a temporary street closing and hour-long evacuation Sunday morning.
According to police, officers and members of the Jerusalem District Fire and Rescue Services Hazardous Materials Unit were called to the scene after numerous tenants reported a pungent odor emanating from the building.
“The street leading to the building was closed off and the area was searched to determine where the odor was coming from,” said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld. “A short time later, fire fighters were able to find it and fix the problem.” None of the tenants or neighborhood residents were harmed by the leak, he said.
