Clashes continue in Jerusalem as security forces remain on alert

Violence continued in the capital on Thursday, with rioters attacking police and motorists in Isawiya, east Jerusalem, with rocks and Molotov cocktails.

Sixteen people, including 11 minors, were arrested by police and border police following the attacks, which took place a day after a two-year-old was lightly wounded by stone-throwers attacking motorists on Route 45 north of Jerusalem.

That attack came shortly before a soldier was moderately wounded on Wednesday night by a homemade bomb that was thrown at an IDF position near Beit Jala, south of Jerusalem. No arrests have been reported in connection to that incident.

Separately, soldiers arrested 15 Palestinians wanted for participation in terrorism and for inciting violence overnight on Wednesday, according to the IDF Spokesman’s Office. The suspects were transferred to the security services for questioning.

The Israel Police, army and Border Police have been on high alert across the country since a Palestinian father and his toddler son were murdered in a firebomb attack on their home in Duma in the West Bank late last month. They fear a surge in “lone wolf” terrorist attacks, rock throwing, and rioting as reprisal for the murders.
