CNN: Iranian aircraft confront US drone over Persian Gulf

Iranian military aircraft confronted a US drone in international airspace over the Persian Gulf this week, CNN reported on Thursday, citing US officials.

The Iranian aircraft shadowed the Predator drone off the coast of Oman, but did not fire shots at it, according to the officials.

One of the US officials with knowledge of the incident told CNN that the US was concerned that such Iranian actions could trigger hostilities in the future.

"They have done this before. We are fully prepared to defend our aircraft. We were definitely in international airspace," he stated.
