Court convicts policeman for beating ‘helpless’ handcuffed suspect

The Kfar Saba Court on Sunday convicted a commander in police intelligence, Oded Sharbit, of striking a “helpless” suspect who was bound both at his hands and at his legs and causing him serious injury at a Netanya police station in March 2012.
Sharbit headed a group for investigating grave international crimes in the police international intelligence division.
The man he struck was suspected of having broken into Sharbit’s residence.
After striking the man, Sharbit uncuffed the man and offered him to smoke cigarettes with him outside, which the court implied was at least a conflict of interest and possibly obstruction of justice in trying to convince the man to forget that Sharbit had beaten him.
