Court: Ex-judge Cohen to remain in custody during trial

The Tel Aviv District Court on Monday ruled that Dan Cohen, the former district court judge accused of taking bribes who was extradited to Israel from Peru last week, will remain in custody for the duration of legal proceedings against him.
Cohen fled Israel in 2005 in the midst of an investigation into allegations that he illegally used his influence with the Israel Electric Corporation – where he served as a member of the directorate from 1991- 2001, and as chairman starting in 1993 – to aid several corporations.
Judge Gilad Noital stated that Cohen's previous actions had shown clearly that he was a risk to flee and obstruct the case against him.
Cohen was set to be tried on charges of bribe-taking, fraud, breach of trust, causing misleading information to be included in financial reports and obstruction of justice.
