Court gives 20-year jail term to man who killed wife

The Haifa District Court on Wednesday sentenced Fares Zian to 20 years in prison after he was convicted in a plea bargain of killing his wife 24-year-old wife Manar in 2009.

Zian hit his wife all over her body and chocked her until she died.

After conflicting psychiatric examinations over whether Zian was fit to stand trial, and with the consent of the woman's family, the prosecution and defense agreed that the husband be charged with manslaughter and not murder.

Zian will also compensate his two children and his wife's parents with NIS 250,000, Israel Radio reported.
