Court orders equal representation of women, Arabs in ILA

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel declared partial victory on Wednesday said that the High Court of Justice had directed the state to come up with a plan for equal representation of women and Arabs in the Israel Lands Authority within 45 days.

ACRI and Itach-Maaki: Women Lawyers for Social Justice filed a petition in 2010 asking the court to intervene due to alleged unequal representation.

ACRI said that Supreme Court President Asher D. Grunis on Wednesday called under-representation in the ILA unacceptable, and indicated that the court would issue a final, even stronger order on the issue without any further hearing if the state had no plan within the 45 days. The court had not sent out a transcript of the hearing at press time.
