Court rejects Katsav's request to hold another hearing

The Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday rejected former president Moshe Katsav's request to hold another hearing on his case before beginning his trial. Katsav had cited new evidence in the case and the changing of the state attorney as reasons for the request. But the judges were not convinced. They rejected the notion that the changing of the state attorney was relevant, and wrote in their decision that "as the hearing process is not a dress rehearsal for the trial itself and is intended to address things broadly - as opposed to specifically referencing any one piece of evidence - we feel there is no escaping the conclusion that any further inspection of the material will be done in court."
