Court sentences man to 4 years in prison for road rage

The Haifa District Court on Tuesday sentenced a man to four years in prison in addition to a two-year suspended sentence for intentionally endangering human life while driving without a valid license. The sentence was noted for its harshness, in contrast to complaints that serious driving offenses are punished lightly in Israel. Police stopped Nawaf Ashich in an Arab village in the North upon spotting a careening vehicle. Ashich initially pulled over to allow the police to approach the vehicle, but he sped off again, leading the police to chase him. The police said that his reckless driving caused motorists and pedestrians to flee to the sides of the road.
