C'tee advances bill eliminating anti-smoking law loophole

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation passed a bill Sunday that would make it illegal to smoke in lobbies, stairways, and other jointly owned places in buildings. The coalition will support the Likud-sponsored bill when it comes to a vote in the Knesset within two weeks.
The bill, which will end a loophole in current anti-smoking laws, would only permit lighting up in a room in the building that is specially designated for smoking. The sponsors of the legislation said it would help non-smokers avoid passive smoke from their neighbors.
