Dalia Dorner announces candidacy for President

The race for the next president of Israel is heating up: former Supreme Court justice Dahlia Dorner announced on Thursday afternoon that she is throwing her hat in the ring.
Dorner, who is currently the President of the Israel Press Council, joined a field of male candidates who include Nobel laureate Dan Schectman and the politicians Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Reuven Rivlin, and Meir Sheetrit.
President Shimon Peres's term ends this coming summer.
In her candidacy announcement on Israel Radio, the former judge said that she was urged to run by people who thought it was important that a woman hold the position. 
Dorner is 80 and was born in Turkey. She served as a Supreme Court Justice for 11 even years between 1993-2004. She currently teaches seminars on human rights at Bar Ilan University as well as Constitutional Law at the Hebrew University.
