Defense Ministry condemns reported desecration of IDF monument

The Ministry of Defense sharply condemned the desecration of an IDF monument commemorating 73 soldiers who died in a 1997 helicopter disaster, Israel Radio reported.

Israeli media reported on Tuesday that two haredi families used the pool of the monument as a swimming pool. The monument near the village of Sha'ar Yishuv commemorates one of the deadliest accidents in the IDF's history.

The Defense Ministry reminded the public that desecrating a military monument was against the law.

The head of Yad Labanim, the state agency responsible for memorializing fallen soldiers, filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident, according to the report.
