Defense ministry considering compensation to farmers along Gaza border

In light of the tense security situation along the Gaza border, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has instructed an inter-ministerial team to examine the possibility of financially compensating farmers working on the Strip's perimeter.
The farmers have been forced by security officials on many occasions over the past few weeks to stop working in the area.
The team, appointed by the defense minister, is headed by the senior deputy defense counsel and the head of the claims and insurance division at the Ministry of Defense, Yedidya (Didi) Oron.
The team toured the communities surrounding the Gaza Strip and met with farmers, hearing about their work during the tensions on the border. According to a statement released by the defense ministry, this was done in order to examine a quick track of compensation for the farmers who had been instructed to stop their work due to the security tensions along the fence.
The team will submit its recommendations to the defense minister in the coming weeks.
