'Didn't mean to suggest Israel violated status quo at Temple Mount,' State Department says

For the second time this week, the US State Department on Thursday felt compelled to once again clarify remarks by its spokesperson on the roiling conflict in the Holy Land, this time over perceived Israeli violations of Muslim sensibilities on Temple Mount.
John Kirby, the State Department spokesperson, took to Twitter on Thursday with the intent of clarifying the Obama administration's position on the latest escalation in Israeli-Palestinian violence.
"I did not intend to suggest that [the] status quo at Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif has been broken," Kirby tweeted, using both the biblical term for the site as well as the Arabic name.
