Education Ministry to fund assistants for special education students’ trip to Poland

The Ministry of Education announced on Sunday that it will be funding trained assistants for special education high school seniors to be able to join their grade’s Holocaust commemoration trip to Poland starting the upcoming academic year.
The unprecedented move, Education Minister Shay Piron said, is “another step towards the integration of children with special needs in the regular education system.”
“We should make all the necessary efforts so that every student in Israel can take part in the special journey to Poland, which is an integral part of our culture and our history as a nation,” Piron added.
Prior to the initiative, families of special education students had to personally fund an assistant in order to send their child on the trip, which cost thousands of shekels.
