Egypt proposal: Gaza demilitarized in exchange for lifting siege - report

A report in Israel Hayom on Thursday claimed that Egyptian security officials and senior Palestinian officials in Gaza and Ramallah told the newspaper that Israel and Egypt are preparing for the next stage of the Gaza arrangement.
According to the sources, "the next stage in the arrangement will include the disarming and removal of all types of weapons from Gaza, with the exception of light weapons to be supervised in exchange for the lifting of the blockade and a series of international projects to improve the situation in the Strip."
Internal security will remain in the hands of Hamas, but the report claims that the organization "will give up heavy weapons."
