'Egyptian MPs ask for expulsion of Israeli ambassador'

Members of Egypt's upper house of parliament asked Monday for the removal of Israel's ambassador to Egypt from the country and to recall his Egyptian counterpart from Israel in light of continued incidents involving the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Egyptian daily Al-Aharam reported.
The Shura Council does not however have the authority to implement removal of the ambassador, council speaker Ahmed Fahmy was reported as saying, adding that he would inform the cabinet of the request.
The Egyptian request follows that of Jordan's lower parliament last week, which also asked to recall its ambassador from Israel and expel his Israeli counterpart in Jordan.
