El Al flight to Paris forced to return after take off due to technical issues

An El Al flight from Tel Aviv to Paris on Monday morning was forced to return to Ben-Gurion Airport shortly after taking off due to a technical difficulty, the airline said later that day.

The 737 aircraft and its 172 passengers and crew all landed safely.

The original flight, LY-319, was delayed for an hour-and-a-half in the morning due to a recognized technical issue, and eventually took off at 8 a.m., according to the firm.

However, soon after the plane took off, the technical problem resurfaced, and the pilot was forced to return the plane to Ben-Gurion. While El Al would not specify the exact nature of the technical failure, the firm said that it did not involve the engines.

After burning fuel over the Mediterranean Sea, the pilot performed a normal landing at 11:30 a.m., the company said. Passengers were transferred to an alternate plane that left the airport for Paris later that day.
