Erdan orders cancellation of fees charged to civilians for ordering rescue services

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) on Tuesday ordered the cancellation of fees charged to civilians for ordering ambulatory or fire rescue services.
Erdan called on the head of his ministry and the commander of the National Fire and Rescue Service Shachar Ayalon to cancel pre-existing charges against civilians.
The costs accrued by civilians for ordering the fire department can run into the hundreds or thousands of shekels depending on the extent of the deployment needed to deal with the fire. In many cases the fees have added an extra burden to citizens already struggling to pay to repair the fire damage.
The Public Security Ministry said Tuesday that cancellation of the fees will cost the National Fire and Rescue Service an estimated NIS 20 million per year.
