Erekat: PA determined to bring UN bid to Security Council

The Palestinian Authority is still determined to bring its bid to join the United Nations to a vote at the Security Council, senior PA negotiator Saeb Erekat told Ma'an News Agency Thursday.
Erekat said the PA would persist even if the request fails to pass in the Security Council, adding that the PA leadership knew from the outset that United States would use its veto on the initiative.
The PA negotiator said the Palestinian government would persist until "our right to establish a Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders."
PA president Mahmoud Abbas said earlier this week in Austria that the statehood bid was meant to salvage the two-state solution.
