Explosion shakes south Beirut

A suicide bomber blew up his car in southern Beirut on Monday night near a security forces checkpoint, killing himself and damaging a nearby café, security sources said.
The sources, who asked not to be named, said the explosion took place in a district of the Lebanese capital mainly inhabited by supporters of the Shi'ite group Amal, an ally of the militant movement Hezbollah.
They said people had been wounded in the blast and that the suspected bomber had been killed.
