Far-right candidate loses Austria's presidential election - media

Austrian media and the BBC have declared that independent candidate Alexander van der Bellen has won in the Austrian presidential election, beating far-right rival Norbert Hofer of the anti-immigration Freedom Party.
Sunday's provisional result showed Hofer ahead with 51.9 percent to van der Bellen's 48.1 percent. However this did not include postal votes, which were numbered at around 150,000, and appear to have swung the result in the independent candidate's favor.
Austria's presidency is a largely ceremonial role but with important powers such as the ability to dismiss the cabinet.
