Father of terrorist will not have residency permit renewed, Interior Minister says

The father of a terrorist arrested for an attack in October will not have his residency permit renewed, Interior Minister Silvan Shalom said in a statement on Sunday.

The attacker, Ala Zwid, is originally from the Palestinian village of Masilat a-Hartaiyya near Jenin, and came to Israel a few years ago with his father under the Family Unification Law, after his father married an Israeli woman

On October 11th, Zwid drove into a group of people on the side of the road on highway 65 next to Kibbutz Gan Shmuel on October 11th, and got out and started stabbing people before fleeing the scene. A 19-year-old female soldier was badly hurt and a 14-year-old boy was lightly to moderately wounded, as were a 45-year-old man and a 19 year-old-man.

On Sunday, Shalom said that Zwid’s father Raed would not renew his residency status, under the recommendation of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet). Shalom said the measure would serve as a deterrent measure to other youths, who are thinking of carrying out attacks.
