Firefighters control small J'lem forest fire

Firefighters battled a small forest fire in the Peace Forest in Jerusalem, next to the neighborhood of Abu Tur on Thursday afternoon.
Three firefighting crews arrived on the scene and quickly identified two separate areas where the fire started, raising suspicion of arson. One suspect on the scene was detained for questioning by the police. After extinguishing the blaze and leaving the area, firefighters were again called to the same spot to re-extinguish the blaze.
Due to its proximity to the city but relative isolation, Jerusalem fire spokesman Asaf Abras said that the Peace Forest has been a popular spot for youth to set small fires. He warned that in the hot weather, small fires can quickly get out of control and cause widespread damage, such as last month's fire near Yad Vashem, which was the result of private trash burning that raged out of control.
