Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) claims that Trump's firing of previous FBI director James Comey constitutes an obstruction of justice. US President Donald Trump has been challenged on Wednesday in the House of Representatives by an article of impeachment accusing him of obstructing justice during the FBI investigation into Russia's 2016 involvement in the American election process. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), who introduced the article, claims that by firing previous FBI director James Comey in May the president attempted to stop an investigation into the conduct of former White House National Security adviser Michael Flynn and his connections to Russian ambassador to the US Sergy Kislyak. Sherman stated that by doing so president Trump "warrants impeachment and trail, and removal from office." The article is not likely to win approval in the House as it is currently controlled by a Republican majority.
