Food bank holds Tu B’Shevat fruit picking day

To mark Tu B’Shevat, the NGO Leket, which distributes rescued food to Israelis in need, held a fruit picking day on Wednesday in conjunction with youth groups across the country.
Young volunteers in Ra’anana, Kfar Saba, Givat Shmuel as well as some small towns in the north rescued excess fruit left on trees in private residences for distribution to families in need for the holiday.
“We are inviting volunteers  to rescue this fruit before it rots in people’s yards and reaching out to private home owners who are interested in donating this excess produce to feed the needy,” Leket’s Volunteer Coordinator Zevi Zemelson explained, “It is a wonderful opportunity to involve the youth in a hands on activity to benefit those less fortunate.”
