Foreign Ministry wage accord reached

Chronic work disputes, disruptions and threats of strikes in the Foreign Ministry may be a thing of the past after the Histadrut labor federation on Tuesday reached agreement with the ministry on wages for diplomats abroad.
The agreement adjusts salaries of ministry workers abroad using an updated price of living index. It was reached between Histadrut head Avi Nissenkorn and Eren Yaakov, director of the Finance Ministry’s wages department, according to a statement from the Histadrut.
“The men and women who dedicate their lives to representing the state in the international arena deserve reasonable compensation,” Nissenkorn said.
“This agreement anchors an updated and modern mechanism that puts Israel on par with other developed countries.” In recent weeks the workers were threatening to strike because a wage agreement reached three years ago was never implemented.
