Former Maryland Governor O'Malley announces presidential run

BALTIMORE, Maryland - Former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, who has aggressively courted the Democratic Party's liberal wing, announced Saturday that he will seek the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, positioning himself as an alternative to frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
O'Malley made the announcement at a waterfront park in downtown Baltimore, where he began his political career first as a member of city council and then as mayor, serving two terms.
After the rally, O'Malley will leave for campaign stops in Iowa and New Hampshire. Those states hold the earliest nominating contests for the party's candidate for the November 2016 election.
