Former Mossad chief: Israel should negotiate with Hamas

Israel should negotiate with Hamas, and incoming defense minister Avigdor Liberman may be the man to carry out this task, former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy said Sunday at The Jerusalem Post Annual Conference in New York.
Halevy, speaking during a panel on fighting terrorism, said that Hamas is looking for ways to dialogue with Israel. He suggested that he was not merely surmising that this is the case, but had inside knowledge that it is true.
He said that Hamas was now an independent entity that was no longer under the control of Iran.
Halevy said that Israel could have destroyed Hamas on any one of three occasions during operations in Gaza in recent years, but chose not to.
