Former PM Sharon undergoes routine surgery, condition remains stable

Former prime minister Ariel Sharon underwent successful stomach surgery at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer Tuesday and was in stable condition, Channel 2 reported.

The operation on Sharon, who has been in a coma since suffering a second stroke in 2006, was a planned procedure meant to keep his systems operating correctly.

Sharon was expected to return to the rehabilitation center at Sheba, where he has been hospitalized for the last several years, later on Tuesday night.
