Fourth civil marriage bill submitted to Knesset

K Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz) submitted the fourth civil union bill in recent weeks on Tuesday.
His proposal is meant to create a "track parallel to the rabbinate" for anyone who cannot or does not wish to be wed according to Orthodox Jewish law.
Unlike bills proposed by Yesh Atid, Hatnua and Labor, the Meretz MK calls for civil marriage, not civil unions or partnerships.
Horowitz also criticized the Labor bill, which was rejected by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Sunday, for only being for same-sex couples, saying that the only way to help the gay community is not to have discriminatory laws.
The Meretz MK proposed similar legislation in the last Knesset, which was voted down.
