French citizens in Turkey demonstrate against Paris shootings

French citizens living in Turkey staged a silent protest outside the French consulate in Istanbul on Saturday ahead of a "unity" march in Paris with European leaders set for Sunday.

In the worst assault on France's homeland security for decades, 17 victims lost their lives in three days of violence that began with an attack on the Charlie Hebdo weekly on Wednesday and ended with Friday's dual sieges at a print works outside Paris and a kosher supermarket in the city.

"We are very sad to see what has happened in Paris. And even if we are French people living abroad, we are not there, we want to show our support, to say why we find this unjust. It was also important to come here because we are a country with a large Muslim community and show that we are together with French-Turkish associations to show that this is not the time to be overtaken by stupid divisions that would damage France because France is a multicultural country," a French citizen Camille Antunes said at the demonstration.

"This is very painful for us and it is also worrying. I have my children in Paris so that is a little bit worrying. And here there has been a lot of compassion, some sincere feelings from the Turkish people, and I am very touched," added another French citizen, Beatrice.
