Meretz chairwoman Zehava Gal-On criticized the cabinet's decision Sunday to approve the draft of the referendum bill.
"[Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu proves once again that he is a craven leader that buckles under pressure by [Economy and Trade Minister] Bennett and the extreme Right in his party," Gal-On said.
The decision on the bill that would require a national vote for any future peace deal with the Palestinians "puts in doubt the honesty of Netanyahu's intentions, and signals that he has no mandate to commit to seceding land in the future," Gal-On added.
"This is a move that hurts the status of the Knesset and the government. Just a few months ago the nation elected its representatives to run the country on its behalf... today's decision rolls the decision onto the nation's lap, while [the government] escapes its own responsibility."
