Gamzu chosen for OECD health board of directors

Health Ministry director-general Prof. Ronni Gamzu has been chosen by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to be a member of its board of directors in the field of health. It was the first time since Israel became a fully fledged member of the OECD for such an appontment to be made, the ministry said on Sunday.
Only a few countries are represented on the board in the field of health; the board sets the OECD’s priorities in the field of health.
Gamzu commented that the ministry “regards with much importance the strengthening of the connection with the OECD. Including a representative of the State of Israel in the board shows the great respect that the organization has for our health system, which succeeds in providing a high level of healthcare  in a very efficient way and at relatively low cost and, on the other hand, struggles with various challenges, including the public/private mix, the aging of the population and more.”
Gamzu, a former director-general of Ichilov Hospital of the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, added that he hoped his choice will “contribute both to the health system in Israel and to those in the other OECD member states.”
