Gbagbo party chief and 11 others charged

ABIDJAN - The former head of ex-president Laurent Gbagbo's party and 11 others have been charged with violating state security for backing his refusal to concede an election, a spokesman for the public prosecutor said on Wednesday.
Ex-party chief and close Gbagbo aide Pascal Affi N'Guessan and the 11 others, who had been under house arrest since Gbagbo's ouster in April, were moved to jails to await trial as a precaution, spokesman Noel Dje said by telephone.
"Mr N'Guessan is wanted for an attack against the security of the state. They have been transferred from house arrest to preventative detention," Dje said.
The charge carries up to 20 years in prison.
