German Submarine affair 'Biggest episode of corruption' says Lapid

On Wednesday head of the Yesh Atid party and former Finance Minister Yair Lapid said he gave testimony this week to police regarding the German Submarine affair.

As Finance Minister, Lapid was responsible for negotiating with Germany to acquire the submarines, but he said he was unaware of Netanyahu’s personal lawyer David Shimron being involved in the deal, having been contracted by ThyssenKurpp.

One of the largest steel producers in the world, ThyssenKurpp.sold the Israeli Navy its newest Dolphin-class submarines.

It has also been accused of bribing officials around the world to promote sales of its submarines.

“This is the biggest episode of corruption in the history of the state,” Lapid said in an interview on Channel 2.
