Gov’t approves bill granting NIS 100,000 to IDF widows

A bill proposed by Defense Minister Ehud Barak granting NIS 100,000 to every IDF widow was approved by the government on Sunday, and is set to undergo an accelerated legislation process.
If the bill passes, any woman whose husband was killed while doing IDF reserve duty between the years 1948 and 1998 will receive the grant in two payments.
Barak’s bill will be brought for its first reading in the Knesset on Monday evening.
“This is a moral requirement,” Barak said of his initiative. The defense minister also thanked Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat for helping promote his bill and reach a compromise with bereaved families.
